Yuk-Ying (Anita) Mui’s Body Confirmed Found by York Regional Police in Shocking Discovery

We begin with a tragic story out of Canada. York Regional Police have confirmed that the body of Yuk-Ying (Anita) Mui, a 56-year-old Markham woman who went missing on August 9th, has been found in Parry Sound. Her death is being treated as a homicide.

Yuk-Ying, a real estate agent, was last heard from around 11 a.m. on the day she went missing after she arrived at a property on Vandorf Sideroad in Whitchurch-Stouffville to conduct a real estate showing. Her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz SUV was discovered later that day in a Scarborough parking lot. Three days later, on August 12th, Ontario Provincial Police officers located her burned remains in McDougall Township, near Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400.

While no one has been charged directly in connection with Yuk-Ying‘s death, three male youths—a 17-year-old from Whitby and two teens from Toronto—have been charged with weapons and fraud offences. Police say these individuals are persons of interest in the homicide investigation. The youths were found in possession of Yuk-Ying‘s property, including credit cards believed to have been used after her disappearance. Two of the suspects have been released on bail, while the third remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

York Regional Police are also searching for a “vehicle of interest,” described as a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cargo van, which may have been used to transport Yuk-Ying. They are urging anyone with information or footage of the vehicle in the areas of 3821 Vandorf Sideroad in Whitchurch-Stouffville or Parry Sound between August 9th and 12th to come forward.

Investigators believe this was a targeted incident, though they have not yet determined why Yuk-Ying was singled out. However, police do not believe her disappearance is linked to her political views or to the abduction of another missing Markham woman, Ying Zhang, whose remains were found shortly before Yuk-Ying went missing.

The investigation into Yuk-Ying‘s tragic death is ongoing, with police continuing to explore all possible leads.

Mortgage Rates Drop to 15-Month Low, Easing Market Tension for Homebuyers

And finally, can market tension be easing? The average rate on a 30-year mortgage has dropped to 6.46%, its lowest level in 15 months, offering some relief to homebuyers in a challenging market. According to Freddie Mac, this week’s rate fell slightly from 6.49% last week, down from 7.23% a year ago. The last time rates were this low was in mid-May last year.

The rate on 15-year fixed-rate mortgages also decreased, now at 5.62%. Economists expect mortgage rates to trend lower as signs of waning inflation and a cooling job market suggest the Federal Reserve might cut interest rates soon.
