Zillow CEO Departs
In major executive shifts, Zillow Group has named Jun Choo as its new Chief Operating Officer. This change follows recent moves by Zillow CEO Jeremy Wacksman, who was appointed in August and previously held the COO position. The Zillow CEO’s leadership has been central to these transitions, which aim to strengthen the company’s operational focus.
Choo, who joined the company in 2015 through its acquisition of Trulia, will now oversee the real estate giant’s for-sale business strategy, operations, and industry product lines. The Zillow CEO emphasized Choo’s extensive experience as a key factor in his promotion, noting its importance in driving innovation and growth.
This leadership change coincides with the departure of President Susan Daimler and Senior Vice President Matt Daimler, marking a significant moment for the Zillow CEO and his leadership team. The Zillow CEO continues to guide the company through transformative times, with a focus on maintaining its industry-leading position.
Meanwhile, Zillow’s new climate risk maps have revealed that Bean Station, Tennessee, faces an extreme air pollution risk. The Zillow CEO highlighted these findings as part of the company’s commitment to providing actionable insights for homeowners and buyers. Located just north of Morristown, Bean Station scored a 10 out of 10 for air quality risk, data that aligns with the Zillow CEO’s focus on integrating environmental awareness into real estate decisions.
According to Zillow’s data, the number of unhealthy air days in Bean Station could increase by 2% over the next 30 years, and the number of days over 102°F could jump by 200%. The Zillow CEO stressed the importance of these insights for long-term planning and investment strategies.
As the company transitions under its new COO, the Zillow CEO remains focused on strengthening the organization’s capacity to respond to market demands. The Zillow CEO’s vision has been instrumental in aligning operational strategies with the company’s broader mission. Under the Zillow CEO’s guidance, Zillow continues to prioritize innovation and resilience in the real estate market.

Historical Household Debt
Americans’ household debt has hit a new record of $17.94 trillion, according to the latest report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. As of September 30, debt levels continued to climb, with credit card and auto loan balances seeing the biggest increases. However, rising incomes are helping many households manage the debt. Disposable personal income reached $21.8 trillion in the third quarter, bringing the debt-to-income ratio down to 82%, compared to 86% in 2019.
While most Americans are keeping up with payments, there are signs of stress, with delinquencies rising, though at a slower pace. Economic research adviser Donghoon Lee notes that the moderation in delinquency rates is “cautiously positive.” A strong job market and wage growth—now outpacing inflation for the past 18 months—are helping consumers cope. However, many are still recovering from a period when wages lagged behind rising prices.

$16M Bribery Scheme Caught
And finally, a Miami man, John Christopher Polit, has pleaded guilty in a $16 million bribery and money laundering case tied to his father, Carlos Polit, a former high-ranking government official in Ecuador. Polit, 43, admitted to helping launder bribe payments from the Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht S.A. through transactions involving Florida-based companies. The funds were used to purchase and renovate real estate in South Florida, as well as invest in businesses like restaurants and dry cleaners.
The bribes were paid between 2010 and 2015 in exchange for Carlos Polit’s help in protecting Odebrecht from fines. John Polit, a former banker, faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering. His father, who served as Ecuador’s Comptroller General, was convicted earlier this year and sentenced to 10 years in prison. This case is part of a broader scandal involving Odebrecht, which pleaded guilty in 2016 to paying nearly $800 million in bribes across multiple countries. John Polit’s sentencing is set for January.
