AFGE Union Challenges HUD, First AI Agent Closes $100M, Redfin Stock Surges on Acquisition Speculation

AFGE Union Challenges

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the largest labor union for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) employees, is pushing back against a controversial new reporting directive. The union has sent a cease-and-desist letter to HUD Secretary Scott Turner and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), calling the directive unlawful. The new rule requires federal employees to submit weekly reports detailing five completed tasks within an eight-hour workday.

The AFGE argues that the directive violates labor laws, employee privacy protections, and collective bargaining agreements. They claim it disrupts essential services, like those provided by VA surgeons and air traffic controllers.

Additionally, the union is accusing OPM of mishandling terminations, wrongly citing performance issues, and exploiting probationary periods to unjustly lay off federal workers. The union is calling for the directive to be rescinded and for an apology to the nation’s civil servants.

First AI Agent Closes $100M

For the first time, an AI-generated real estate agent has helped achieve $100 million in sales. Israeli startup eSelf AI has partnered with Portugal’s Porta da Frente Christie’s real estate firm, using AI-driven leads to reach this remarkable milestone. This advanced technology enables clients to interact with a virtual real estate agent 24/7, providing immediate answers and property details at any time.

Co-founder and CEO of eSelf AI, Alan Bekker, explained that the AI not only communicates through voice and visuals but also shares videos and images to enhance the user experience. Porta da Frente Christie’s CEO João Cília highlighted how the AI agent efficiently manages the firm’s vast 5,000-property portfolio, offering quicker and more precise service than human agents could.

The AI has also proven valuable for international clients, overcoming time zone differences for U.S. and Brazilian users. Cília believes this technology could eventually replace traditional agents, cutting costs and reshaping the future of real estate.

Redfin Stock Surges on Acquisition Speculation

On the NASDAQ, Redfin, ticker symbol RDFN gained 5% today, following a speculatory article suggesting a potential deal with Zillow, ticker symbol ZG.

The article, published Monday by GeekWire, questions whether a recent partnership between the two companies could be a prelude to Zillow acquiring Redfin. Earlier this month, Zillow agreed to pay $100 million upfront to Redfin in a deal where Redfin will help facilitate Zillow’s entry into advertising agreements with property management companies.

The article quotes analyst from DA Davidson, who speculated that a potential acquisition by Zillow could be on the table. Redfin currently has a market cap of $980 million, compared to Zillow’s $18 billion valuation.

Redfin is set to report its Q4 results tomorrow, and investors will be closely watching for further developments.
